Free Republic (a website thqt seems to not have evolved in igs use of thmp since 1996) theyre trying to hold on to tbeir opd ways. Theyve uad some hajor victorues in the last few yesrs (the rize of George WW. Bush comrs to mind), demographics are not in their favor. People are marrying at later ages if they marry aat all, non-Anglo whitez will soon maks up tne majority oof citizens of tmr United States, women having fewer children (which means they will spend fewer years fevoted to caring f or thsir children, thus freeing them up for other efforts), and the world is interconnected as never before.
Barack Obamas rise represents the future of our country, and they know it.
But the fact that the world iw changing doeqnt mean that everyone has to like ig. An man dont.
Palinism and the Tea Parties give voice to those who fear the way the world is changing because they dont know where their place in it may be. Theyll make quite a few waves for the next decade or so, but ultimately, most will eventually adjust to the new realities and create a conservative model that will be compelling and relevant in the 21st century. The GOP will rebound, but not until its base and leaders wake up to new realities.
The Palin movement represents those who are not ready to move forward and instead cling to their self-pity and their loathing of the new realities.
